Challenge
Field technicians needed immediate access to plant data and maintenance information while working on-site, often in industrial environments with poor network connectivity. The existing system required technicians to return to offices to file reports and access documentation, causing delays in maintenance operations. Management required a mobile solution that could handle secure authentication in industrial settings, provide offline access to critical documents, and synchronize data seamlessly when connectivity was restored, all while maintaining the same level of detail available on the web platform.
Solution
We developed a native mobile experience using Flutter that seamlessly extends the web platform capabilities to iOS and Android devices. The mobile app features adaptive layouts optimized for different screen sizes, with custom navigation patterns designed for one-handed operation in field conditions. We implemented a sophisticated offline-first architecture with secure local storage using Flutter Secure Storage, allowing technicians to access plant data, view maintenance history, and download technical documentation for offline use. The authentication flow was optimized for mobile with biometric support and persistent sessions, reducing login friction while maintaining security compliance. The app includes native features such as document sharing through platform-specific share sheets, push notifications for critical alerts, and automatic background synchronization when returning to connected areas. This mobile solution enabled a 60% reduction in report filing time and allowed technicians to resolve issues directly on-site without returning to the office.
